Making an impact through our programs

compassionate companions

One of our key programs, Compassionate Companions, pairs individuals with trained volunteers who act as dedicated listeners and community guides. These volunteers take the time to understand what matters most to each person, providing personalized support throughout their journey. Whether you’re facing a life-changing diagnosis helping a loved one navigate their own caregiving path, or experiencing grief, a Compassionate Companion will assist in connecting you with resources and support, always with the focus on maintaining your quality of life.

BVP Office

Understanding My Grief is a monthly workshop for BVP clients, based on Dr. Alan Wolfelt’s model of the 11 tenets of companioning the bereaved.

In this supportive session, participants will explore loss, grief and sorrow as fundamental experiences of transformation, deepening and growth. The conversation will include expressions of grief, cultural myths around grief, and metaphors and stories that can help us better understand our own experiences.

Banff Mineral Springs Hospital

This is the first session in a 6-week Grief Support Group co-facilitated by Bow Valley Palliative and Covenant Health.

Led by Rabbi Rick Kline, this session explores the Five Gates of Grief, a way to name loss and experience grief developed by psychotherapist and author Francis Weller. Together, we’ll gently explore different layers of sorrow, including personal loss, unmet longing, ancestral pain and grief for the world. Whether your grief is fresh or long-carried, you are welcome in this space.

There is no cost to attend. Pre-registration is recommended.
