It is with great sadness that we learned about the passing of Donald James Pestell. We are reflecting on his remarkable legacy of compassion, vision and generosity that will have a lasting impact on families throughout the Bow Valley for generations to come.

Don’s life journey was one of extraordinary determination, generosity and entrepreneurial spirit.

To our organization, Don was a champion for compassionate care and a believer in the importance of dignity, comfort, and humanity at the end of life. He first made a considerable donation to Bow Valley Palliative eight years ago, and his commitment never wavered.

Through his philanthropy and leadership, Don helped make possible the future Pestell Centre for Compassionate Care – a transformational project that will serve individuals and families across the Bow Valley. We are more driven than ever to complete this project as a true testament to Don’s legacy, and we are so grateful that Don’s family has encouraged the community to donate to BVP in his name and legacy.

Don’s generosity reflected not only a commitment to healthcare but also a profound understanding of community and human connection. Don often remarked on the endless power of good people and hard work, often with humour and always with a smile. Meetings with Don often involved a great story and a chat with his beloved dog Walter beside him.

We extend our deepest condolences to Hanna, Craig, Jennifer, and the entire Pestell family. We are honoured to carry forward Don’s vision and to celebrate a life defined by success, kindness, courage and enduring generosity.

His legacy will live on in every family comforted, every patient cared for, and every moment of compassion made possible through the centre that will proudly bear his name.
